Mason, one of our Electrical Apprentices’ has successfully completed his three month probationary period. We spoke to him whilst he was in the office to see how he felt his first three months has gone.
How have you found working at Guardian
I have found working at Guardian to be very interesting. It has been great to see all of the details that go into a job. Seeing it through from start to finish.
What have you enjoyed the most?
It has been good meeting loads of different types of people with a wide variety of skill sets & knowledge.
How have you found working in the electrical team?
The electrical department has been very welcoming to me since I started . They have taught me so many methods of work and helped me with showing me how to do tasks to a high standard within a timely manner. The electrical team always make me aware of the dangers that can occur . As health & safety is a high priority at all times. I have gained much more social experience since starting my position. For example giving reassurance to the customers and explaining things to them properly. So they have a better understanding of the work that has been carried out on site.
What has been the best part so far?
The best part of working alongside the electricians is the satisfaction gained when the work you have been issued is all completed. Installing something is really satisfying as you know that you have completed the job from start to finish and it will be there for years. It shows me that my hard work at college was worth it.
What practical knowledge have you learnt?
Installing something is really satisfying as you know that you have completed the job from start to finish and it will be there for years. It shows me that my hard work at college was worth it. As I find this kind of job really interesting.
What are you looking forward to?
I am mostly looking forward to applying my knowledge that I have gained and using it to solve an issue and do some repairs and fault finding. I am also looking forward to completing project works and installations. I want to improve on my weaknesses & gain my qualifications.
We spoke to Caroline, Service Office Manager, to see how she thought Mason was getting on.
Mason was really confident and shone through at the apprenticeship evening when he took part last year, this is why we took him on as an electrical apprentice. We have tackled any performance issues with all of the apprentices by guiding and supporting them into college and full time work. With regular review meetings we are helping to make sure they are aware what is expected of them; also highlighting when they have done really well to help spur them on.
Mason has responded well to these prompts and has always taken this feedback on board and tried his best to make improvements where necessary. Mason is gaining confidence and has good electrical practical knowledge. Well done on passing your probation period Mason!
